OVERSEAS FIRE OFFICER COMMAND & CONTROL COURSE Phase 2

DURATION:   3 Weeks fully residential

DELEGATE GROUP:This course is designed for overseas personnel who have previously attended the Overseas Command and Control Programme. It provides an insight into recent regulatory changes to airport rescue and firefighting operations and complements previous training with instruction in command and control principles, and safety management systems. The programme provides opportunities for delegates to acquire knowledge and understanding in the following key areas: -

  • RFFS Regulatory requirements
  • Operational principles of command;
  • Safety management;
  • Investigation principles.
     

PRE ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Trainees will need to have experience of Airport Fire and Rescue Services at Officer or potential Officer level and be able to communicate easily using the English language.

AIM:

To refresh and further develop the knowledge and understanding acquired during the Overseas Command and Control programme

OBJECTIVES:

At the end of this course the delegate will be able to:
State the legislative (ICAO) requirements regarding the RFFS at aerodromes
category 1-10

  • Detail the emergency planning responsibilities pertaining to aerodrome operations.
  • Describe the elements of incident command.
  • Demonstrate, through simulation, command competence.
  • Outline the principal health and safety factors that apply to RFFS operations
  • Recognise the principles of fire investigation
  • Recognise the principles of accident investigation
  • Explain the wider emergency planning arrangements for disastrous incidents that have effects beyond the aerodrome operation.
  • Demonstrate a confident and informed approach to press / media liaison
  • Discuss the psychology of decision making and its impact on emergency operations

This course will involve the use of a virtual reality command simulator and external visits to an airport and other associated organisations.
